IAJGS Membership Application

Regular membership is open to any non-profit organization whose primary purpose is to promote Jewish genealogy. Other organizations may join as associate members.

To apply for membership in the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies, Inc. (IAJGS), please print and complete the membership application form.

Note that a new member organization that joins between October 1 and December 31 will get full membership through the following December 31.

Include documentation requested and payment of annual dues (note that an extract of IAJGS Bylaws is included in this application). If you have any questions about IAJGS membership, please email the Secretary of IAJGS at secretary@iajgs.org

Please attach the following along with the application form:

  1. List of members to document minimum membership (see IAJGS Bylaws, Article IV, Section 1).
  2. List of all applicant board members with names and email addresses.
  3. Copy of applicant’s governing document (e.g., Bylaws). Please provide a copy in English or, if original is not in English, the original with an English translation.
  4. Applicant mission statement or statement of purpose.
  5. Description of specific activities conducted, publications issued, or forums hosted during the past 12 months that document the minimum required activities (see IAJGS Bylaws, Article IV, Section 1).
  6. Check for fees computed at 50 cents (US$) per member (minimum of $18), or PayPal, or authorization to charge a credit card. If a credit card is to be charged, be sure to complete the appropriate section of the application form. If using PayPal, contact the IAJGS treasurer as instructed on the form. Fees must be paid in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank.

Section 1. Any non-profit organization whose principal purpose is to promote Jewish genealogy shall be eligible for Regular Membership in the Association if it meets the following criteria:

  1. Has at least 10 dues-paying members.
  2. Holds regular meetings at least quarterly, or conducts meaningful ongoing activities relating to Jewish genealogy at least 4 (four) times a year, or publishes a newsletter, journal or any electronic form of publication at least 2 (two) times a year, or convenes an electronic discussion group, or undertakes other significant Jewish genealogical research projects.
  3. Adheres to the objectives of these Bylaws.
  4. Pays its annual IAJGS membership fees.

Regular Members are entitled to vote on matters concerning the Association, participate in IAJGS activities, receive mailings and other information, and are eligible to receive and purchase products and services produced by the IAJGS for its members.

Section 2. Any other organization can be considered a Non-Voting Associate Member of the Association if it meets the following criteria:

  1. Adheres to the objectives of these Bylaws.
  2. Pays its annual IAJGS membership fees.

Section 3. Applications for membership shall be reported to the Board of Directors by the Membership Committee. Each new member must be approved by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the Board.

Annual membership fees are payable on the 1st of January of each calendar year. Any member that has not paid its required membership fees by the 1st of March of any calendar year shall cease to be in good standing until such fees have been paid.
