Beth Israel Cemetery: Avon Jews bought farmland off Jackson Street in the 1950's for a burial ground. The oldest stones date from 1958. The synagogue is on Albany Avenue in West Hartford. The original Beth Israel Cemetery is in Hartford (Zion Hill near Trinity College). The synagogue purchased a piece of land from Beth El in the late 1980's for a new cemetery. The new burial ground is right next to Beth El's in Avon. Because the cemetery is new (opened around 1990), there are few gravesites. Beth Israel is on Farmington Ave. in West Hartford. Farmington Valley Jewish Cemetery: Congregation was founded due to the settlement of many Jewish residents in Avon, Canton, Farmington, and Simsbury since the late 1960's. The burial ground was purchased in the late 1980's. It is a very small site, right behind the Post Office in Avon Center (Old Avon Village). There are a few gravestones present. The synagogue is on Route 167 in Simsbury. Rabbi Herman may still be there. Source: James Rappaport
