Salute to Susan Edel

Susan Edel, We Salute You!

Susan EdelThe “IAJGS Salutes! Committee” is pleased to announce that Susan Edel has been awarded an IAJGS Salute! IAJGS Salutes! are designed to provide recognition on an ongoing basis of noteworthy projects, activities and accomplishments relating to Jewish genealogy at any time during the year in addition to the annual IAJGS achievement awards.

Susan Edel has worked tirelessly for the past decade reuniting families separated during the Holocaust through her work as a volunteer for Magen David Adom’s Family Tracing and Reunification Unit, part of the International Red Cross’ International Tracing Service (ITS).  To help reunite families over the last decade, Susan made extensive use of the Red Cross Archives in Geneva and the International Tracing Service in Bad Arlosen, and has represented Magen David Adom internationally.

Susan has reunited many families including siblings that did not know each other were still alive. In many cases, when living relatives were not found, she has found documentation as to the fate of those family members.

Before Susan’s volunteer work tracing families, Susan worked for the Magen David Adom Ambulance Service saving lives.  She has also volunteered with several local genealogy organizations where she served in a variety of positions. She currently serves on IGRA's Audit Committee. Susan continues to help many people, both through the ITS and those who contact IGRA seeking information on their families.

On behalf of Susan’s tireless work helping to reunite families, the IAJGS salutes you!
