Proposal Deadline – January 15, 2008

The Program Committee is pleased to announce our invitation for submissions for presentation proposals for the 28th IAJGS International Conference on Jewish Genealogy at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile, August 17-22, 2008.

Possible presentation categories are listed below:

  • Jewish History/Sociology
  • Latin American Research

  • Migration and Naturalization
  • Mizrachi Research
  • Research in Other Locales (Australia, Africa, Asia, etc.)
  • Photographic and Document Preservation
  • Rabbinic Research
  • Repositories
  • Sephardi Research
  • Technology and Internet Resources
  • United States Research
  • Western European research
  • Yiddish theater/Jewish Music
Sessions will be 60 minutes, with an additional 15 minutes reserved for questions and answers.

The decision to accept a submission will be heavily weighted toward presentations not given at the previous three IAJGS conferences, that provide specific research methodology and that include specific information for researchers to replicate the success of the presenter in acquiring information. Additional criteria include a speaker’s experience and ability to present a high quality oral presentation; originality of the topic and anticipated interest level in the topic.

Submitters will be notified by March 1, 2008, about whether their proposal has been accepted for presentation

All abstract submissions must be submitted via our on-line abstract module process. E-mail submittals will not be accepted.

All handout material/resource material is due by April 10, 2008, and is required for each presentation. It will be included in the syllabus distributed to all conference registrants. All handout material must be up-loaded on-line according to the directions to be given. Further details of the handout material requirements will be provided upon acceptance of lecture.

We reserve the right to cancel speakers who do not submit all materials for the syllabus by the due date.
