A miraculous archeological discovery testifies to the flowering Jewish life in the heart of the city through the Middle Ages; a Romanesque mansion has been found and named The Sublime Abode. Was it a rich merchant’s house, a synagogue or a rabbinic school ? The question remains! Jews were expelled from France (14th). Portuguese “marranos” arrived 3 centuries later. Then different waves followed one another from Alsace, Germany, then Russia, Poland, Central Europa, Turkey (in the 1920ies) and, last but not least, from North Africa 50 years ago.
Rouen is only 80 miles from Paris. A special visit is organized for you just after the end of the Conference.
