A New Resource to Find Your Relatives in Eretz Israel

The Israel Genealogy Research Association (IGRA) has developed a collection of new databases dealing with both periods of the Mandate in Eretz Israel and the debut of the modern State of Israel. During these ninety years, the Jewish population expanded with the absorption of successive waves of immigrants. Much material from this period is protected under privacy laws, but there are still many public documents that can be found and used to build databases for public use. These resources include publications during the Mandate period, such as the Palestine Gazette as well as the Iton Harishmi (the Hebrew version of the Palestine Gazette), in addition to Yalkut Hapirsumim for the period of Israeli statehood. Additionally, archives are being scoured for documents that are not protected under the privacy provision, as well as newspaper information from these periods. The databases will be in the language of the original documents with the added transliteration of people’s names, to enable the databases to be searched in both Hebrew and English.
