Calendars, dates and time play a significant but often confusing role in genealogical research. For the Jewish genealogist, knowledge of the 'luach' (Hebrew calendar) and its interplay with civil time systems is imperative. Records often confuse us with conflicting dates for one event, and require special interpretation skills for solving discrepancies. Understanding Hebrew and civil calendars and their interplay, will help solve these thorny issues. This session will explain some basic rules for understanding Hebrew and civil calendars, examine cases that present difficulties and present strategies by which to solve these problems.
