Cemeteries

Opened in the early years of the 19th century, Père Lachaise cemetery is now within Paris itself. Following its opening, a Jewish section was created and personalities from all walks of life were buried there: religious figures, politicians, bankers, artists. The Rothschilds lie near the painter Pissaro; Pierre Lazareff, a famous journalist of the 20th century is beside Rachel, a famous actress of the 19th century. We shall also visit the tombs of Jews not buried in the Jewish section of the cemetery.  And we will be able to pay homage to the memory of people deported in WWII as we stand in front of the moving memorial devoted to their plight.
