Jewish Genealogy Resources at Beit Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People
15
JULY
2012
The Douglas E. Goldman Jewish Genealogy Center at Beit Hatfutsot is the main repository of Jewish genealogical resources in Israel, currently holding many millions of records. The information is available on an advanced multimedia database that allows the researchers numerous research options including data on the meaning of family names, history of Jewish communities, relevant photographs, movies and music, biographies and family histories. The presentation will focus on the genealogy resources, including the lesser-known resources available at Beit Hatfutsot, like its important collection of LDS (Mormons) microfilms. A special emphasis will be put on The Georgette and Raphael Cohen Collection of Family Trees from Meknes, Morocco, an outstanding resource on the genealogy of the Jews of Morocco, and particularly on the Jewish families from Meknes.
