It seems important to clarify a few geographical and historical data about Mostaganem.

Mostaganem is a port of Western Algeria, located about 80 km East of Oran. As early as the early Middle Age, this city is mentioned on the maps and portolans. On the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, abundance of fresh water and fertile lands largely contributed to the development of the city.

The construction of a deep water port will be effective only in the second half of the 19th century.

(1) The successive and constituent of this Jewish community inputs:

- Traders from Mallorca in the 14th century.

- The two exodus of the Jews from Spain: after 1391 and 1492.

- The two exodus of Jews from Mascara, fleeing the war between the emir Abdelkader and French armies, in December 1835.

- The Jews of Tetuan, fleeing the war between Spain and Morocco, as early as 1850.

(2) The case of Rabbi Mimoun Abbou (between 1830 and 1880), his writings; his progeny.

(3) The remarkable relationship between the Jews of Mostaganem and all trades of wine jobs.

Thanks to the pleasant geography of the city, with their singular history, Jewish families of Mostaganem occupy a place apart in the Algerian kehilot streak.
