A brief survey of Paris Jewish community from 1872 till 1939 through the 23,500 ketoubot of Paris Consistory. On the counterfoils remaining in the registers we find: dates, synagogues, names, first names, dates and places of birth, the addresses of husband and wife? The letters this Napoleonic institution received throw a more human light on these bare facts. The census allows us to talk about the evolution of Parisian Jewish population, its politico-economic-social context, and to encounter obscure as well as well-known people? We will try through these religious data to make a modest contribution to History and sociology.
