My Jewish ancestor died in the UK- what next?

I will start by looking at what happened when people died in the United Kingdom: death notices in the Jewish press, suggestions of cemeteries and burial societies. Further to this, I shall mention wills and probate material- and what light they can shed on the family connections of a relative. Although this is mainly of interest to people with UK links, I hope to prove that it can be helpful to people who may not know they have family buried in the UK: for example, a relative who came from Eastern Europe and went through the UK to get to the US, and died in Britain. The United Kingdom was a both a centre for Jewish immigration and a gateway to further West, and these ideas, as well as the themes of Jewish cemeteries, their use and preservation for genealogy, I hope to touch on in my talk.
