Genealogists now have the ability to easily share their research with the rest of the world, by publishing on the Internet. The methods for doing this include custom made sites, sites generated by genealogy programs, family-wikis, and public sites such as ancestry.com. I will focus on how to create custom sites (using my own site, www.thekesters.net/Genealogy, as an example), but will also review the other methods of publishing data online. I will discuss the steps required for each, as well as the pros and cons, so attendees will have the information they need to decide which method is appropriate for them. The steps involved in creating a website will be reviewed, including assembling the data, creating the web pages (using both Macs and PCs), adding graphics and links, registering domain names, finding a hosting site, and getting visitors.
