The film presents immigration to the United States of the Jews of Eastern Europe in the 1930s. It is the last yiddish filmin Poland, before the World War II.
Following a flood, a poor village of fishers is plunged into misery. The departure for the United States and the American dream seems to be the only plank of welcomes to the family of Abram. Since his uncle is gone, all succeeded him. It is with this hope that Abram leaves only his village for the new promised land, where he will work as a dishwasher in a restaurant while waiting for his wife and his son to join him. Jewish songs sung by belle Bessy, awaken in him the nostalgia of his former life. He learns of his cousins Motel and Fiszel, also expatriates, that his old father and his young son fell ill. After a long waiting, his father, his wife and his son come with him to the United States. They live together in a building which the owner is their famous uncle. The wife of Abram asks if leave worth really, the United States life is not easy and it feels lost in this big city. The film ends on the departure of Abram and son of this new home, after a harsh argument with his wife...
