The part of genetics vs. cultural
17
JULY
2012
The following items will be discussed:
1 - The difference between genetic markers and genes.
There is only a single human "race" , however there are a large number of populations or ethnic groups, we will try to define as well as their diversity.
2 - Culture, Environment and Genetics.
The role of genes and epigenetic. We will give examples of the relationship between genetics and culture, for example lactose metabolism.
3 - The "genetic" study of ancestral geographic origins is based on statistic and probability studies. They are therefore not valid at the scale of the individual, but are valid across human populations.
4 - The study of genetics and genomics are used in some countries in premarital or pre-conception stage, to avoid the birth of patients with serious diseases or no treatment.
We will discuss using examples.
In theses approach is the geneticist eugenic?
