Use of the International Tracing Service material (Yad Vashem)

The ITS ("International Tracing Service") collection is one of the most important collections in the world regarding personal information of individuals during the World War II era, including the Holocaust. Contrary to popular conception, the ITS collection is not comprehensive, and has little information on many categories of Holocaust victims.
Yad Vashem has long experience in working with the ITS records (a partial copy of the records being available at Yad Vashem since the 1950's, and Yad Vashem is currently one of the institutions receiving a full copy of the records). This session will try to explain what can't be found in ITS material, what can be found and how to find it. It will particularly outline the importance of the ITS material for finding immediate post-war information for certain types of survivors.
