This was a very successful conference with 1379 registrants. There were 190 lectures and 180 speakers. JGS was happy to have as a speaker at the banquet Samuel G. Freedman, the award-winning writer and professor of journalism at Columbia University and author of Who She Was: My Search for My Mother's Life. Dr. Allen Weinstein, the Archivist of the United States addressed the opening session on Sunday August 13, 2006. He brought special greetings from US President George Bush.
The Resource Room was very popular. The computer labs attracted 476 participants. There were 27 public computers with full internet access. In addition, the Resource Room had a large selection of books, maps, databases, and translators to help with "Document Lost and Found". The LDS Family History Center provided access to Jewish interest microfilms (including the Hamburg Emigration Lists) and film readers . There were also representatives from Ancestry.com and the Shoah Foundation, and the Holocaust Memorial Museum database. Access to ProQuest's newspapers from other cities than NYC was another big attraction.
The conference was held at the Marriott Marquis at Times Square. The conference committee included conference cochairs: Linda Cantor, Hadassah Lipsius; Programming Chair, Gloria Berkenstat Freund; Registration Chair: Roni Seibel Leibowitz
