The International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies (IAJGS), on behalf of its member societies around the world, expresses its sorrow to learn of the death of Shelley Talalay Dardashti on August 16, 2025.
Shelley was a force in Jewish genealogy and is perhaps best known for founding Tracing the Tribe. Originally a blog, it transformed into Tracing the Tribe – Jewish Genealogy on Facebook. With nearly 82,000 members in 101+ countries she touched so many of us through her efforts, moving us towards greater connection and communication, a rich and lasting legacy.
We extend sincere condolences to Shelley’s family, and her many friends in the Jewish genealogy community.
