In Memory of Ron Arons

As you are likely aware, our friend and colleague, Ron Arons, died suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, January 7th. Ron was a special person within IAJGS, where he served as Secretary of the Board and assumed a broad range of responsibilities. He was also well known within the broader genealogical community as an author and knowledgeable and engaging speaker.

Ron had a great talent for friendship. In the two weeks since we learned of his death, I have spoken with many of you who conveyed stories about Ron—his expertise, his generosity, his enthusiasm, his humor. And IAJGS Board members have received numerous questions about how we plan to memorialize and honor him.

In response to these questions, please know that IAJGS has established the Ronald Arons Memorial Fund. We anticipate that its focus will include such purposes as the creative use of technology in genealogical research, one of Ron's many passions. I am pleased to announce that a generous donor has inaugurated the Fund with a gift of $5,000 and a promise to match all gifts to the Fund up to an additional $5,000.

If you would like to make a gift in memory of Ron, please visit "Support Us" on the IAJGS website, go to the "Donate" page, and choose Ronald Arons Memorial Fund as the purpose of your gift.

We also intend to establish an online memorial page, a place where you can share messages and memories of Ron.

Finally, there are arrangements underway to honor Ron with a special program, still to be determined, at our International Conference on Jewish Genealogy next summer in Philadelphia.
